Morgantown, W.Va.–West Virginia University released an announcement today about the formation of the new WVU Energy Institute to be headed by Brian J. Anderson, the GE Plastics Material Engineering Professor of Chemical Engineering who for the past year has been the coordinator of strategic research in energy.

The institute will establish a network of expertise at WVU in energy research. One of the key resources with which Anderson will be working is the National Research Center for Coal and Energy. For more than 35 years, NRCCE has been working with WVU faculty and other partners outside WVU to advance technologies in traditional energy resources such as coal and natural gas extraction and use, energy efficiency, and protection and reclamation of the land and water, with one program specializing in small community water infrastructure.

“NRCCE has extensive experience in collaborating with the WVU faculty and others to develop and conduct multidisciplinary research programs to advance innovations for traditional energy resources and to protect the environment,” said Director Richard A. Bajura. “We look forward to working closely with the Energy Institute and Brian as he expands WVU’s energy research.”
