Wafle named director of Shared Research Facilities; continues as NRCCE deputy director

Trina Wafle, NRCCE Deputy DirectorMorgantown, W.Va. – Vice President for Research Fred King announced today that Trina Karolchik Wafle will become director of the Shared Research Facilities effective immediately. She will be responsible for leadership, strategic vision, and direction for the SRF.

Shared Research Facilities allows researchers access to high-value or commonly needed research equipment while spreading the costs of purchasing and maintaining such equipment across the entire research community. SRF services promote WVU’s research, educational, and service goals and the growth of other regional research organizations and high-technology businesses.

As SRF director, Ms. Wafle will report to the Associate Vice President for Research Administration Alan Martin.

She will remain as deputy director for the National Research Center for Coal and Energy, a position she has held since 1994. In that role, she will continue to report to NRCCE Director Richard A. Bajura.

VP King also announced the promotion of Mr. Harley Hart to SRF operations manager. Mr. Hart will be responsible for day-to-day management of Shared Research Facilities operations including implementation and maintenance of CORES, the Core Ordering and Reporting Enterprise System. CORES will integrate the SRF equipment reservation and invoicing systems to streamline business operations for users and the SRF staff. User training for CORES began in December.
