Morgantown, W.Va. — The National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC) will conduct the 7th installment of the nation’s largest alternative fuel and advanced technology event, National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day Odyssey.
Odyssey, a biennial, nationwide event dedicated to increasing awareness education on the importance of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles, has impacted more than 400 million individuals since its inception through event attendance and media.
National AFV Day Odyssey 2014 is poised to be more successful than ever, forging the way with the slogan of “Driving toward a clean, secure energy future.” With numerous events conducted nationwide with the same focus, Odyssey continues to reach Americans from the East Coast to the West Coast with vital information about green transportation options.
The National Kickoff Event is set to take place on the National Mall in Washington, DC, October 17. This premiere location promises to draw thousands of participants visiting the Washington, DC area from around the world to the National Kickoff Event. Thousands more will join governmental agencies, environmental organizations, businesses, community colleges and secondary schools across the nation for local Odyssey events.
Prestigious national partners for the event include the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities Program, the U.S. National Park Service, the Smithsonian Institution, and AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC).
The Greater Washington Region Clean Cities Coalition will serve as a co-host for the National Kickoff Event held on the National Mall.
The event has again attracted the support of industry giants American Honda Motor Co. and the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), who have pledged to sponsor the 2014 nationwide alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) awareness event.
National AFV Day Odyssey does more than attract large numbers of people—it also gets to the heart of the environmental and economic issues our nation faces by changing public perception on clean transportation options.
From a sampling of the thousands of surveys completed by individuals at local Odyssey events in 2012, 80 percent said they will include AFVs in test drives before making their next personal automobile purchase.
Additionally, nearly 85 percent noted they would now consider purchasing an AFV for personal use.
Perhaps most importantly, after attending Odyssey, nearly 90 percent of the surveyed participants stated they would support the availability of local alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicle options. This number represents a 30 percent increase in alternative fuel vehicle support from attendees’ opinions before the event.
By reaching large numbers of people and helping to shape their thoughts, opinions, and attitudes on clean transportation options, National AFV Day Odyssey is helping to drive our nation forward to a clean, secure energy future.
